According to the Cambridge Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., "It is with great sympathy and immense sadness for Cambridge Alumnae Chapter that we announce the transition of our dearly beloved Soror, Mary G. Fisher. Mary was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Mary was a lifelong educator, coach, teacher, Regional athletic director, and for several years, Mary was selected as District VII Athletic Director of the year, 1997-2003, and the Maryland Athletic Director of the year, 2003-2004. Mary coached volleyball for 27 years and softball for 24 years. She was selected Coach of the Year in both volleyball and softball. Mary’s volleyball team won the program’s first regional title. She became the first female president of the Bayside Conference (1999-2001).

Mary began her career at Chestertown Middle teaching science and reading. During the spring of 2023, Mary was presented with the Founders Award from Maryland State Athletic Directors Association. Her mark on the lives of students, families, teachers, administrators, and coaches will be forever etched in the history of the schools and communities that she served. Mary worked in both Kent and Caroline County Public Schools. Her legacy has been sealed and her memory will be forever in our hearts and minds"
