Garnet High School Students During May Day Celebration, 1958. The girls in the photograph are Mary Ann Gilbert and Audrey BIack. The three boys are not identified, although the back of the photograph lists their initials. Each year the BIack schools were permitted to have a May Day Celebration at Camp Tockwogh in Coleman, MD, a YMCA camp located just two or three miles from the segregated Coleman Elementary School. The Black elementary schools and Garnet High School would bus the students to the camp. Students would compete in sport events and other relay events. The main event was wrapping and unwrapping the ribbon around the tall May Pole to the tune of "Here we go 'round the mulberry bush". May 1958
