Mark Awantang, class of 1997. Recipient of the 1997 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar by Black Issues in Higher Education. Part of the all-conference basketball team e set the standard for blocks during his WAC career and was a team MVP, holding records for single game and season blocked-shot records. Awantang graduated with a degree in Biology and then earned a medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. He is now an orthopedic surgeon in Florida specializing in the hand.
